Nurturing Thursday: Within

Every day I travel to my work and as it is not a five-minute journey, I prefer to read. These days I am reading “Siddhartha” written by Hermann Hesse.

In 1919 Hesse claimed: “What we can and should change is ourselves: our impatience, our egoism (spiritual egoism too), our sense of hurt, our lack of love and forbearance. Any other change in the world, even when done for the best intentions, I consider as useless.”

This is my contribution to Becca’s Nurturing Thursday for the week.

  1. Siddhartha is a beautiful book! I fell in love with the simplicity of words and the profound message it has for all of us.

I have read it many times, over the years. Lent my paperback to friends; bought a few copies and sent them across to the people I love.

And yes, spiritual egoism is something that we don’t recognise but it is very pervasive.
