Your photo is powerful.
A friend pointed out to me that even when a tree dies, it still has ecological value…it can help the soil, be a home to animals, bugs, and etc. So that made me feel a bit better. 🙂

Interesting that there are so many posting that this is a sad photo. And yet, it’s also a new beginning for many. It’s filled with insects and fungus, it’s being slowly digested in to new soil. It’s fall has opened a bit of sky for new plants to get sunlight from. And there really is something about the smell of an old dead tree like this.
Funny, though, that I’m completely able to see this death as a positive thing with lots of hope in it and yet the death of almost any animal seems sad to me.
I am glad that you see positive here. There were all sizes of pine trees in the woods. Forest is a little world in itself. The networking of roots from existing and past trees help us moving on the slopes. Every corner has something interesting to check.

Pine forests are especially lovely – the sight and smell takes me back to my childhood.
Inspiration ebbs and flows so a few days went by without a post. Some days I can’t think of a thing to write and others make me drop everything and find a keyboard to get something posted. Things are going generally well, though. Hope you and your family are also staying safe and healthy.
Your eyes seek beauty in the most unusual places. Personally I think this is a great photo. The tree couldn’t bear the loss of all its leaves, it had to hurt so much and it couldn’t languish any more, so it succumbed to weather and its aftermath.

I love it as a photography subject. Cutting of trees is not a common thing in practice here.
There might be some reason to keep it there.

Yes, so true, but I still grieve the loss of trees. Shrubs come and go, but trees should grow old.

Actually, if this is a natural fallen tree, it is not sad. It adds to the wondrous environment of a forest.
