Weekend 102: Hiking again

weekend102_1Exactly after 3 weeks, we decided to take a long hike again on a nearby mountain. A safe haven considering other tourist places in these difficult times. Due to the difficulty level we were sure of meeting less people on our way and even if we meet some they will most likely be locals.

The smell near the pine forest was very peculiar and inviting. We stepped into it to see the most popular of wild edible mushrooms, the Chanterelle. The above photo doesn’t do it justice as was highly magnified. The mixed aroma in that forest was just majestic. I don’t think we will get time during the week to go back and pick some chanterelle.

We took a very short break after reaching height around 600 moh. The last section was quite steep and the sun on our head was not very supporting. Yes it was a hike under the sun.  😎

After hiking for 3 hours and covering  9.6 km we reached our destination which was more than 900 meter above sea level.

You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.~ Maya Angelou

Covid 19 situation made me cancel at least 8 of my international trips (more for my husband) until now.  Instead of spending time on social media and covid news, we strictly follow the measures given by our health authorities. Ignoring extra covid information had put less pressure on our minds.

One step ahead we decided to make a routine for our daily walk. We don’t regret as we both have shed weight and increased muscle. Daily walk prepare us for long and steep hikes. Yesterday we covered around 19 km (according to google map).

I am aware of the fact that the photo quality is not the best as I do not carry my camera on hikes. I hope you don’t mind either.

  1. Bravo and Kudos to you Rupali for being so active and energetic to hike like this. I too do not read, listen or do much of Covid news. I listen to Mehdi Hassan and Begum Akhtar songs, paint, or read. I go for short walks in the neighborhood.
We also have edible mushrooms in our area. The spots are highly prized and protected (as a secret). People do not share the information about where they grow. I don’t go looking for them and neither do my children. Sometimes some friends gives us a few, or when we go to dinner at the Country Club these mushrooms are breaded and served. We never ask where they got it from, because we know that they will never bring the Morel mushrooms to us ever again. Secrecy is the best policy for the silence from us.!
Your photos are beautiful and the cell phone camera has done justice to your photography. I know the smell of the pines in the mountains. My brother and I used to hike the smaller mountains of Kadaikanal and Ooty when we were younger, and couldn’t breathe hard enough to have satisfaction of looting the smell. Thank you for sharing them here.

    • Oh, you must be missing Kodaikanal and Ooty. I have not been to any of the two. One day, may be 🙂
A couple of days we listen to Begum Akhtar. My husband and I enjoy hindustani classical and natya sangeet. We call our family as Kansen family. We spend our evenings watching interviews of great sangeet pandits or ustads.
Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts Zakiah ji.

      • Thanks Deb.
Until recently we were travelling a lot and hence left with less free time at home. Moreover it’s a small place without any kind of entertainment so we decided to take refuge in nature.
        Stay safe and healthy.
I hope Banglore is doing well in covid situation.

      • Not really, social media shows too many crowded places around me with people doing maskless selfies, so you can guess… Which makes me stay indoors as much as I can. Which is why seeing outdoors in blogs like yours is such a welcome relief Rupali 🙂

  2. Such a serene place to hiking, ma’am! 9.6 km in 3 hours is mighty impressive, ma’am! And the mushrooms sure do look tiny but appetising.
The frames are beautiful and the some of them, I wouldn’t have guessed were captured with a mobile phone. Amazing!
Stay safe and do more hikes! 😀

      • Oh yes, safety above everything else. Over here in Mumbai, treks are still inaccessible.
I hope you go out for a hike as and when the weather becomes more conducive 🙂
And thank you for the compliment about my blog. Means a lot! 🙂

  4. Photos were beautiful as always – and did not suffer in the least for having been from a phone. Nice to see you also are on a routine of getting out and walking every day. But wow – 19 km! That’s a huge and wonderful walk. My shorter bike ride days don’t even get to be that long 🙂
