It’s hard to find any special fences in the country side. In my neighbourhood we have almost no fences. At some places shrubs are used as partial hedging. Near farms we see temporary fences in spring and summer when the livestock are taken out of the barn and are kept near house before sending them to feed in the forests and the mountains.

I was amazed at there were almost no fences on the Northern Limestone Alps in Innsbruck, Austria. There were many trails but this was the only fence/railing I found. One is responsible their own safety.

Lens artists photo challenge Fences
we have far too many fences here, how delightful that you have found two countries with so few fences!

Thanks Kate. Being a commuter it’s very hard to make use of both the front and the back garden. Our neighbour asked us if he can use little of our space for setting a trampoline. My husband had no problems and he hardly goes there. Now the neighbour takes care of mowing the grass. My flower bed is undisturbed as always. It’s a win-win.

wouldn’t life be sweet if we all worked in such mutual negotiation instead of all these boundaries we create unnecessarily!

It is encouraging to think that fences are not needed so much in your country as in ours

I, too, am impressed that there is little need for fences. And I really like how livestock are sent to the forests and mountains to feed.

I often wonder about this, here fences are an urban obsession (safety and privacy, ownership) but in the rural areas less so.

A lovely post. And I especially loved the Maya Angelou quote. The leaf and the flower are so gently placed in their fences. I also like the fence along the road. Such carefully taken shots, Rupali.

Emotionally….I always find bridges better than walls or fences.

PS…People sometimes spend their lives on the safe side of the fence. In doing so, they miss out on so many wonders in life. The fence is the limits you place on yourself; the boundaries you have put in place; and the restrictions you placed upon yourself. “Throw your heart over the fence and the rest will follow.” ~ Norman Vincent Peale
